Who is eligible to receive assistance?
To receive regular services, a family , regardless of the number of members, must meet income guidelines provided by the State of Missouri. Agape serves all residents in Warren County with the exception of those who live in the Wright City School District. Wright City has its own food pantry and client support services.
Walk-in evaluations and referrals
Agape assists persons with finding the help they need whether through Agape Directly or through other sources. The director works closely with each family and with other community resources to afford the clients maximum assistance.
Monthly food and government commodity distributions
Agapes Food Pantry receives food from the St. Louis Area Food Bank and Operation Food Search. Many area churches, individuals, schools, community groups and businesses collect food throughout the year for distribution to clients. Cuivre River Electric Co-operative also provides grants to Agape for food.
The Thrift Shop is open to the public. Clothing and household items donated to Agape are sold at very reasonable prices. Funds raised through the sale of items support the many services of Agape Ministry. Clients may receive one bag of free clothing each month.
As an extension of the Thrift Shop, during Spring, Summer and Fall Agape has monthly yard sales to raise additional funds.
Assistance for the purchase of prescriptions from specified community pharmacies is provided for qualified elderly persons through a United Way grant. Grants from Cuivre River Electric Co-operative, Verizon and WalMart help provide prescriptions for other qualified persons in need.
Assistance for victims of catastrophic loss
Individuals and families who face the devastation of fire, flood and other disasters receive assistance in setting up housekeeping. Clothes, housewares, furniture, small appliances and food may be available for the victims.
Food, clothing, blankets and personal hygiene items are available for emergencies. There are also limited funds available for partial payments on rent or utility bills.
Agape provides school supplies and winter hats and gloves to school children.
Cuivre River Electric Co-operative provides funding for the purchase of materials to help weatherize clients homes. The work is generally done by the client or by volunteers, if necessary.
Agape Ministry coordinates this program which provides food, gifts, clothing and other needs to families through church and community sponsorship. The program is also supported by area food drives and other donations.
Neighborhood Assistance Program
State tax credits are available through the Missouri Department of Economic Developments Neighborhood Assistance Program (NAP) on eligible donations from businesses and individuals who have farm, business or rental income. The tax credit is for 70% of the donation. Tax credit is only applied against state income taxes owed. Persons who make a NAP donation are still allowed the full amount of donation on their itemized deduction on state and federal returns.
